Photinia serrulata is a large evergreen SHRUBS or small tree. A multistemmed SHRUBS that is medium to fast growing and has a tendency to sprawl. The new foliage is a striking purplish-bronze that turns dark green fairly quickly. Flowers are small, white, some find the fragrance unpleasant. The fruit is a small dark red pome, maturing in late summer and remaining on the SHRUBS throughout winter, can be very attractive feature. Does not tolerate wet soils, but otherwise reasonably adaptable. It can be subject to mildew, leaf spots, scales and blight. It makes an excellent hedge or privacy screen. Native to China
