Japanese Holly

The genus Ilex, commonly called holly, can be found throughout the world in both temperate and subtropical regions. It includes species of trees, SHRUBSs, and climbers, with evergreen or deciduous foliage and inconspicuous flowers. They are slow-growing plants which can grow to 25m tall. The type species is the European holly Ilex aquifolium. ‘Golden Gem’ is a dwarf, evergreen SHRUBS with pretty golden-yellow leaves in spring, turning lime green/yellow later in summer. The colour of the leaves is dependent upon the amount of sunlight received during the day, with the best foliage colour being seen if planted in a position with full sun.
